Thoughts? Well, we can believe we are at the mercy of supernatural forces ie pray enough and get a reward or pray but have a supernatural bad guy mess it up just to gve you a hard time, or make your own destiny. Sometimes things go well for us by accident and sometimes go pear shaped by accident. Sometimes things go well for us through our own hard work and effort, and sometimes our less sensible decisions and actions make things make things suck for us. So do whatever you can to make good decisions and take positive action, rather than being pushed, pulled and rewarded by invisible beings who in all likelihood don't exist.

Other jws told me Satan was using my non jw mother against me whenever I had a big fight with her n came to the meeting miserable because of it but I never bought into the idea my mum was somehow a tool of Satan. I knew her too well and what the others saw as me being persecuted at home for being a jw I saw as mum and I just having disagreements. Heck, we used to fight before I was a jw. So while I saw the world as a terrible place that needed to be endured, my experience as a jw was never one of persecution but mostly just curiosity or apathy.

Most Irritating Thing About The Jw's
by integ infor me it is the smugness.
it's their inability and refusal to admit they are wrong....ever...even in the face of irrefutable evidence.
isn't pride a sin?

I agree. They 'know' everything and have all the answers. We all did when were in. I know I was such a douche smartass.

What are the buzz words or trigger for JWs?
by UBM101 ini read steve hassan's book and he mentioned about buzz words or triggers that call out the cult personality of a victim of mind controlling cult.
when you were in, what triggered you?.

Why Does this super smart Bible God not perform miracles
by confusedandalone inlet's be serious - if you really want people to have faith and to be able to now absolute truth why not perform miracles.
why not make the bible a blank book and when you open it, it addresses you personally in writing of course.
for instance it says, "hey confusedandalone this is what i need you to do.

I see miracles: humans are the miracles as they can constantly delight and surprise. They can love and create. I see a miracle every time I go to the beach and watch the turquoise waves crashing in. I don't see those thigs as being from god however: they just are, d sometimes you just gotta live in the moment and enjoy for the wonderful things they are.
As for bible miracles, they can't be backed up with historical or scientific evidence. When they are, I'll believe.

Letting go of trying to convince people makes you happy
by DeWandelaar ini am a thinker... and i was thinking a lot lately about (the absense of) god and about my past years as a witness and suddenly it striked me: the less i think about a caring god being in existence the more happy and relaxed i am.
also the fact that if he is there then i will notice it one day... i am not afraid of anything godlike in any way.
while exploring that feeling i was also noticing something.

@designs, then they can't be said to be not hurting anyone. Religion is a taboo topic in Australia so we're lucky that religious groups have no political power.
It is nice to know you're not responsible for the eternal salvation of everyone you meet though, because you're too chicken to witness to them like I always was. The guilt that these people could be killed because you didn't speak up, and that you could be killed too for not speaking up can wreak havoc with one's mental wellbeing.

We have so much in common! Live and let live I say, and that's where you're at too. It doesn't matter what people believe or don't believe, as long as they're not hurting anyone.

What the? They're hiding behind their signs, literally! And it's so dark and uninviting looking. They just don't wanna be there, obviously. Bit different to the charity booths who stand at front and invite you into a conversation and show you pictures of what they do...but they actually want to sign people up...

Letting go of Highly Qualified Men
by James Jackson ini have been posting for a few months now and have read the life stories of tech49, confusedandalone, winston smith and other brothers who have held prominent positions in the organization who were dismissed not for any gross sins, but mainly for not keeping their child toeing the line.
they have been "cast aside", nit picked to death, and made to feel unworthy for their years of dedicated service.
even in my case, having my best friends treat me like the plague to jockey for position of recogntion.. is this what the organization is resorting to now?

Nailed it, tech. These preppy born ins who think they're gods gift...I have a friend who has the rest of the boe against him because he became an elder because he wanted to help people be more Christian, and instead is confiding in his apostate friend about how awful the other men are...
